It’s Free!
Some good things DO come for free. And some of those said free things do a great service to others.
Enter free antivirus software.
Today, PC Magazine released the names of the best and brightest anti virus software of 2010 on it’s website, PCmag.com. And some of those listed were actually free.
The blue ribbon and Editor’s choice for free antivirus software went to Panda Cloud Anti-Virus 1.1. In terms of blocking malware, it fared the best and had the highest detection rate. It’s a bargain for any one who is unable to find a paid solution for decent cloud-based detection.
Malwarebyte’s Anti-Malware 1.46 was another popular freebie. It did the trick for any one person looking for just a cleanup tool and not something that would protect from a full attack. It downloaded quickly and installed easily.
Immunet Protect Free 2.0, another free antivirus software focused on protecting on a community type basis. Pcmag.com felt the best way to utilize this antivirus software was to hook friends and colleagues up with a free copy and view the status of the community’s security. Testing showed that it didn’t offer the best protection for viruses but in time, maybe things would improve.
Finally. Free Digital Defender 2.0 was tested and results were not stellar. In fact, even after allegedly removing threats, Digital Defender 2.0 failed. Threats continued to run and not much malware was even detected by the software.
Understandably, one does get what he or she pays for. But in this economic climate, a freebie is a welcomed bonus. And a freebie working to combat computer viruses is a double bonus. Because the last thing anyone would wish for is a bit of bad luck with pesky malware during the wrong time.
In fact? Is there ever a right time for pesky malware?
